This is the puzzle that must be solved to save the world of Lor Mandela.

The destruction of the planet started with the death of the matriarchal leader known as the Vritesse of Lor Mandela, who prior to her death had to choose her successor between her two twin daughters. Anika had the strongest will whereas Lantalia was the kindest. Both were qualified but only one could rule. Which would it be? Little did she know that her choice would bring vengeance between the two ending in complete destruction of their sisterhood.

Will one be stronger than the other and rule their world? To complicate things even more, Anika’s daughter's former entrusted (husband) Darian has swore to seek revenge upon her, her family and put himself into a position as ruler. But does he have the strength to pull it off?

And then there is Maggie Baker, a 17 year old living in what she calls the most boring town on earth. When she starts seeing hundreds of tiny lights buzzing around her window, she knows it’s nothing more than a stupid dream.

But when the dream starts taking her in places that she can’t identify she starts believing that these dreams aren’t your every night dreams. So who is Maggie and how does she fit into the world of Lor Mandela?

When I made it to the last page of Lor Mandela I had one thing to say “NO! Don’t end now!” This book contained some of the most creative characters I’ve ever found in a book of this type. The Shadow Dwellers can fade in and out of the shadows and move at high speeds won me over. The Sybran Forest that draws it’s branches up as beings entered, were easily within my ability to imagine.

But my favorite characters had to be the Shadow Squanki which is a magical creature who can camouflage into its surroundings and create portals allowing them to move from place to place. And they will do just about anything for their favorite food the cricket.

This author kept me so involved in the story of Lor Mandela that I found myself thinking about the riddle and it's meaning while driving to and from work each day. So, Author L. Carroll, I’m ready for the next chapter of Lor Mandela and hope I don’t have to wait too long. This book was great!

Fifth grade is the best for Jennifer, Rebecca, Pamela and Sammie. Their teacher, Mrs. Fern, is as sweet as pie, the boys are extra cute this year, and, between the girls, the glitter supply is strong. The girls use so much glitter, the principal calls them "The Frosted Friends" All is well until mean old substitute, Mrs. Frost, comes along. Jen and Becca already had to have Mrs. Frost for fourth grade, and Mrs. Frost is supposed to be retired! Mrs. Frost is back, and she's as mean as ever. She's making the girls write sentences and confiscating glitter! Everyone seems to think Mrs. Frost is the pits, except for Jen's classmate "Frowning Francesca" Clearwater. Never a risk taker, and not one who thrives on an abundance of excitement, Cindy had only just begun to relax after her last encounter with murder. (A few months earlier, she’d discovered a body in the sanctuary of the church where she worked as a secretary.) Much against her will, she finds herself inexorably drawn into this new murder investigation, which seems somehow tied to the dogs Joseph gave away at the Animals to the Rescue event.

The only good Cindy can find in the unwelcome turn of events is that it puts her back in touch with Jeremiah, the rabbi from the synagogue next door to her own church. Cindy and Jeremiah follow the skimpy clues, hoping to bring the criminal to justice and stop the killing, even as Cindy grows close to a couple of homeless individuals, and Jeremiah fights health difficulties.

I Shall Not Want is the second book in the Psalm 23 Mysteries. It offers a touch of humor, a hint of romance, a suggestion of religion, and a large serving of suspense. Ms. Viguié knows how to plant a clue. She’s obviously familiar with what makes a mystery mysterious. What she finally reveals is an ingenious new spin on an all-too-familiar crime.

Having missed Book One in this series, I was relieved to find that this story works well on it own. Viguié does a good job of drawing the reader in, and making him/her a part of the story. A distinctive writing voice, delivered with wit and sensitivity, make for an interesting, easy-to-read storyline. She handles an often controversial subject with delicacy and humor, while still managing to shine a light on the hardships of living on the street. Nicely done.

In Definitely Digital by Australian author & photographer Thomas Palfy, simple to read and follow instructions, pictures and explanations clearly define using a digital camera to create the effects of the best picture possible for the reader.

Palfy begins with a demonstration from an old family photograph he was able to restore somewhat using Adobe Photoshop, a photo editing program. He follows with some other family photos, explaining lighting and background techniques used then, compared to newer age functions of the now preferred digital camera.

I found the short, simple instructional book to be very informative and consise. The author also explains dpi (dots per inch) and how the number of dpi can affect the quality of the picture in print. He also explains digital file sizes and how to save and store them, resize and send photos through email programs and various photo editing programs.

What a wonderful book for the beginner in digital photographer as Palfy also explains the various functions on the digital camera and the effects they will produce. I highly recommend this book for beginners.

While The Days of our Lives hit daytime soap serial might be pure fiction, the life of its Executive Producer, Ken Corday, is not and lends familiarity into real life situations, despite his infamous family. This shows that even the rich and famous are only human, too.

On the jacket, a very clear description of the book’s contents can be found: The True Story of one Family’s Dream and the Untold History of Days of our Lives. Ken Corday writes beautifully as he opens up to the world about his family, background and events leading up to the creation of one of America’s top daytime soaps, Days of our Lives.

Originally a dream of his father and mother, Ted and Betty Corday, the family moved from New York to Los Angeles, bringing their dream to life. Unfortunately, Ted Corday found out soon after production began that he was terminally ill. Cancer reared its evil head, not showing any favoritism among its countless victims. Upon learning the devastating news, Ted Corday enlisted the assistance of William (Bill) Bell to write for the show and keep it alive, and it was under Bell’s brilliant and imaginative mind that it became number one, bringing top ratings to NBC.

Betty Corday took the helm of control, running it as tightly as a mother runs a home full of children before becoming ill herself and turned it over to son, Ken Corday, in the late 70s. Interestingly enough, Ken Corday was, and still is, a musician and though he didn’t really want to be in charge of the show, took it over and has been running it ever since.

Tragedy did not strike only the characters plotted into the scenes unfolding on the screen, but in the Corday family as well. Ken Corday’s older brother Chris committed suicide, though he didn’t dwell on that particular subject in the book, he did specify that to this day, none of the characters in Days of our Lives has ever committed suicide, despite all the adversities they’ve encountered.

I found the book to be extremely interesting as it brought to life the many facets involved in producing a show of this nature and magnitude, keeping it alive for many, many years and how despite their own family’s misfortunes, the Cordays were able to stay close-knit, loving and caring amongst themselves and the crew and cast of the longtime running show. Also included were pictures of the Corday family, cast and award ceremonies, which added an extremely real touch to the story inside the cover. And I was very surprised to learn that Mr. Corday also composes the music played on the show. Bravo, Mr. Corday. Well done, indeed!

Title: Apparent Danger

“Apparent Danger – The Pastor Of America’s First Megachurch and the Texas Murder Trial of the Decade in the 1920s”, brings to light a very descriptive and well researched tale of the life of J. Frank Norris, who built up the Baptist Church ministry in Texas to more than 10,000 members.

Not exactly an angelic “beacon” for the church, Norris has his faults, as any man, but for a man of the cloth to commit murder, was the story of the century. Backed up with facts only an enormous amount of research could produce, Stokes weaves the story brilliantly for the era in time, including dialogue, diets and demons.

Though murder is not what the townspeople would expect of their minister, it is obvious throughout that Norris is being guided through his various missions in life by the bible and God’s word. Taking the life of another man wasn’t exactly on his agenda, but when it did happen he wasn’t worried that he would not be exonerated from the sinful deed. His faith in the higher power was eminent throughout.

Despite barriers and adversity, Norris forges on to get the written “Word” out to as many people as possible. Stokes adds a nice mixture of fact into the story as it unfolds with believable dialogue, making the reader feel like they were there, witnessing it all, bringing history to life in a wonderfully told story of the life of Norris.

For anyone who loves a good story, I recommend Apparent Danger. Stokes will have you turning the pages into the wee hours of the night as he weaves an interesting historical tale of the forgotten trial of the decade (1920s), when Norris killed D.E. Chipps, bringing much adversity to the small, sleepy community in Texas. A true crime weaved beautifully into a fiction story sure to grab the attention of anyone who likes a well-blended novel containing every possible facet still found in life today, from perjury to gangsters, to a church that includes its very own newspaper and radio station. There’s a little bit of everything in this story.

Lots of interesting and unexpected twists and turns that even the non-history buff will love. The J. Frank Norris account is one of the best stories I’ve read in a long time, so be prepared to be caught off-guard when you open this one!

While relationships between young women and older men are at least somewhat accepted, when the genres are reversed, society considers it something ugly and reproachful—especially to the woman. Lickel offers a heart-warming love story based around such a relationship. Meander Scar is beautifully written, with sensitive handling of a delicate issue, and an absolutely fascinating storyline. The unexpected twist at the end comes right out of the blue, forcing the reader to keep turning pages. Masterful storytelling. Very highly recommended.

All she did was accept an invitation. Miranda Klassen, dedicated daughter of a Seattle Mennonite minister, is a talented musician. A noted songwriter. She’s excited to have been offered the challenge of helping an Old Order Mennonite church prepare and publicize a Christmas musical that will draw new people and new life to its staid congregation.

A completely modern Mennonite, Miranda loves red, her computer, and her cell phone. What awaits her in Minnesota is like something out of Little House on the Prairie. The women cook and sew and dress like they stepped out of the last century. The men open doors for the ladies, wear old-fashioned but strangely appealing hats, and sit on the opposite side of the church from their wives. What on earth has she gotten herself into?

Ted Wiebe wonders the same thing. No matter how talented Miranda Klassen might be, it was a mistake to bring this modern woman to his community—and especially to his church. She wears pants. Her lips are red, along with her boots and much of her clothing—which does not include a proper prayer kapp. She’s attached to her laptop by some kind of invisible cord…and she reads her Bible on a red cell phone!

Two people from different worlds, with opposing points of view on just about everything. They have committed to getting through an important project. But after meeting one another, neither of them is thrilled about the prospect, especially since they’ll be forced to spend a lot of time together.

But God works in mysterious ways….

Gail Sattler brings a warm and endearing look at a closely knit, wonderfully loving Mennonite community. She explores the difficulty many of us have in accepting that our way may not be the only right way. Miranda’s impact on Ted’s life and the lives of his Mennonite “family”—and their influence on her—touches, amuses, and entertains. The Narrow Path is a well-written, informative, revealing look at a way of life most of us can only imagine, and an enjoyable exploration of what happens when two worlds collide. Enjoyable reading.

When Libby’s husband Greg doesn’t return home from a trip to the Canadian wilderness, she's not sure whether to be sad or glad. In fact, if he did show up, she just might divorce him. Their marriage has been a farce since their 12-year-old daughter’s death, for which Libby holds her husband responsible.

The police investigation seems haphazard at best, as they’ve pretty much decided Greg used his annual trip to Canada as a way out of a failing marriage and a career he despised. Despite her own doubts as to her husband's disappearance, Libby finds herself unable to let it rest. With her father-in-law and her best friend Jenika in tow, she sets out on a wilderness trip of her own, hoping to find clues or find Greg.

The trip sheds a light on far more than a missing man's motives. With her own trust in God lying in tatters, Libby is buoyed by Jenika’s steadfast faith and her father-in-law’s unswerving confidence in his son’s integrity. By the time they reach the end of their journey, she is forced to reconsider her harsh judgment and consequential treatment of a husband whose love was unfailing. In doing so, she finds things hidden away in her heart that force a reassessment of her own spiritual, mental and moral being.

Is it too late for them? Will she ever find Greg … dead or alive?

They Almost Always Come Home is a touching account of one woman’s journey back to love and faith. A wonderful thread of humor keeps Libby’s painful odyssey from being too much to bear. I enjoyed the authors' subtle yet unmistakable message of faith. Because it took me a chapter or two to get into the story, I was surprised when I discovered that I was completely lost in it. I had to know what happened to Greg and whether or not his and Libby’s marriage would be salvageable if he were found.

This is a well-written, memorable and touching story I’m pleased to recommend.

On March 15, 1939, Helen Waldstein’s father snatched his stamped exit visa from a distracted clerk to escape from Prague with his wife and child. As the Nazis closed in on a war-torn Czechoslovakia, only letters from their extended family could reach Canada through the barriers of conflict. The Waldstein family received these letters as they made their lives on a southern Ontario farm, where they learned to be Canadian and forget their Jewish roots.

A Very Dangerous Woman - Martha Wright and Women's Rights

Though I am not typically a history buff, per se, I am a Christian and I enjoy learning more about past events that reflect on the political and social injustices, both human and animal related, and how we were able to surpass and/or overcome those. I chose to review this particular book because for one, I recognized the name – Martha Wright – however, I had no recollection that she had been directly involved with the women’s rights movements or abolishing slavery.

The authors (a husband and wife team) have brilliantly weaved Martha’s story in with not only the history behind this woman and her role in it, but have added photographs and references to where the information can be found. It was a unique and fascinating way to lure in even the average reader, such as I, who normally would not veer into the historical lessons. In summary, it is written as a story about the life of Martha Wright and her involvement in not only the women’s rights movements, but also how she became a part of the few brave and often unknowns who assisted the slaves in reaching freedom from a cruel society who believed “owning” a person was proper.

The photographs entwined between the chapters only lend an even deeper understanding because you could actually see the person involved. And the inclusions of references on record nicely polished off the invaluable lesson learned from reading about this family’s history.

Another reason I was drawn to read this book was the fact that one of the authors, Mr. Livingston, is a descendant of Martha Wright. Learning about one’s genealogical flow in history has always been a fascination of mine and I was impressed with learning more about the family and their role in history.

Martha was actually not very well known for her part in all of this critical participation. I have a feeling that at the time, she didn’t really mind her role in the shadows as it actually wound up being to her advantage and she was able to do more than even she thought she was capable of accomplishing, given the restraints of that era in time.

A fascinating read and one I highly recommend. I also believe this particular book should play an important role in schooling the children of our political future. Well done!

Thicker than Blood is an extraordinary debut! Wow!C. J. Darlington has crafted a believable and engaging story. Loved the theme. Couldn't put it down. Full of twists and revelations, it is sure to keep you up late at night.

It is no surprise that this story has won an award. I was immersed in Christy William's world. I couldn't get enough. C.J breathed life into every character—excellent world-building. This is one book you do NOT want to miss!

Peace in the Storm by author Deirdre Kelley tells the often traumatic story of divorce from a drug addicted and abusive spouse. We meet Amy Alexander as she walks away from the courthouse and the battle to save her marriage. She is free of the violence and fear of her husband, Brandon. However she can't help worrying about her future and whether she is strong enough to make it on her own and take care of her two sons.

Over the next several chapters we learn about how Amy's children deal with an absent father and their memories of how Brandon hurt their mother mentally and physically. Fifteen-year-old Marshall seems to be the perfect son and student; hard working, mature, understanding, a good Christian teen. He steps into his new role as man of the house and is glad his mother no longer has to endure the bruises and the fighting. Like most seven-year-old's, Sean loves video games and playing with his friends. He struggles with the belief that since his father doesn't visit, and yelled at him for no reason, that his father must hate him.

Peace in the Storm is well written with good character development and believable dialogue. Deirdre Kelley does a good job showing the stress and fear involved when dealing with a violent, unpredictable ex-husband. She also draws a clear picture of the joy of a new beginning, of rebuilding and reaching out to help others. Throughout her struggles, Amy discovers a great strength in prayer and the new friends she makes along the way. Just when you think the Alexander family will be okay, Brandon begins harassing and threatening the family for money to support his and his girlfriend's drug habit, culminating with Sean's disappearance one day after school.

Peace in the Storm is a wonderful work of Christian fiction. I understand that in difficult times, many people lean on their faith for direction. However, I occasionally felt the religious passages pulled me from this otherwise interesting story. I recommend Peace in the Storm to those who enjoy stories of faith-inspired strength and survival. I hope to read more from Deirdre Kelley.

She brings an entertaining story full of well-rounded characters, packs it with accurate geographical and historical detail, and then peppers in all the right ingredients to keep those pages turning long into the night.

It’s a genuinely good book that lovers of Christian fiction won’t want to miss.

Ms. Ryan has really outdone herself on this last installment to the Charlotte McNally series. This time Charlie’s aiming to stop a car scam operation while at the same time, planning for her upcoming wedding. By far the best of the four McNally stories, Ryan has held nothing back in this one. Full of action including high-speed car chases, hidden video, stakeouts, and even her fiancé and stepdaughter get tangled up in the weaving of deception, secrets and murder.

Ryan has a knack for storytelling and her real-life experience in news reporting is highly reflected in her writing. She has a very unique voice and the ability to make each story in her books better than the last one. Though her characters are fictional, you can only suspect that the McNally character reveals many of Ryan’s own qualities, which appears to add humor and hands-on investigation into even to the grimmest of crimes.

Her stories in this series are well written, the plots are intriguing, the characters are extremely realistic and the background settings are right on target. I’ve read all four books in the McNally series and have to admit I’ve loved them all, but this last one, Drive Time, tops them all. A difficult task in outdoing the last great read, Ryan has handled the task with the ability to keep all the characters, old and new, in place – their personalities never faltering.

Also due to her experience in getting the facts and reporting the news, she’s able to use her talents as well to make her stories realistic, allowing the reader into the mind of McNally, and laying out the details to make everything fit into place exactly right, holding the reader in suspense until she lets go of the climatic ending.

What I really enjoy about Ryan’s writing is that you can’t figure out the plot and ending before finishing the book. I just didn’t want to put it down. A real page-turner!

Ryan is an amazing new talent in writing mysteries laced with realism, facts, and plenty of action! I’ll miss the series and hope she will add more later on!

Set in Africa, the story begins in the past to give the reader an understanding of the history involved in order to bring the reader up to date with present times. Part myth, part truth, the story basically is generated around Ledimo (which means water finder), a God who appeared to be immortal and whom controlled the weather, such as draughts, floods and inclimate weather and all the water bodies..

As his powers begin to fade, he uses up most of his remaining power to salvage the waters and powers into a stone. He has two descendents whom must derive the powers from the stone as a somewhat “team” effort, meaning they had to work together and agree on the goal in order to do this. Since they come from very different backgrounds, this proves to be a difficult task. As the story progresses though, they come to depend on each other.

An interesting fantasy tale based upon myths and truths with a story weaved around it, the author sets the scene from the beginning, but later in the book, you have to pay closer attention as the story unfolds because it gets a little confusing. Still, I think the reader can form a picture in their mind of the events as they occur if they remember to keep the past events in mind as well.

All in all, a fine example of African lore sure to entertain children who seem to soak up information like a sponge. It’s a great fantasy tale, reminding me of some of my grandfather’s tales when I was a young girl, about far away places, magic, and ancient beliefs.

It is a great storybook to read to smaller children so you can explain things as you go along. But for reading purposes, more suitable for an older child who might comprehend the story better. It’s a story children are sure to remember and possibly tell their own grandchildren one day.

A Tragic Icon Reveals His Soul in Intimate Conversation – The Michael Jackson Tapes by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach is sure to be one of the most talked about, controversial books released in 2009.

The conversations were held, according to the author, during a time when Jackson needed a friend to confide in and help with coming to grips with his own identity, which he felt had gotten lost in the shuffle of his highly publicized life. He claims they were making the tapes in order to publish a book, hopefully enlightening the world to the real Michael Jackson, the person, not the icon – to gain the love and respect Jackson so deeply needed and wanted.

He says he himself put a halt to the book due to a severance in their relationship. This made me question from the beginning, the legitimacy of releasing this confidential information. Especially with the untimely death of the star and the release of this book. However, I’m just a reviewer giving my honest opinion of the book.

It was quite interesting to read the conversations between the Rabbi and Jackson. The public has never really been given such documentation before, that I am aware of. So for someone just wanting to know more about the man behind the music, the cameras, the lights, and the highly publicized professional and personal life, the book can be considered “interesting”, perhaps even “fascinating”. If everything in the book is true and nothing is fabricated.

Throughout the book, I felt the author implied Jackson’s intentions or thoughts behind the words, with his own theories or interpretations. So in a sense, I felt misled by the author. He consistently infuses his own religious beliefs into it as well. And speaking of religion, I found the fact that Michael was raised by his mother to be a devout Jehovah’s Witness and they attended that church in Indiana to be quite interesting. I never knew Jackson actually went door to door, handing out The Watchtower.

But while reading that part, I was thinking, “Okay, so how is it he has wound up talking to this Rabbi?” I questioned many theories, statements and “supposed secrets” throughout the book, which in turn left me with more questions than answers. I’m not sure we’ll ever really know the “truth” behind Jackson’s life, privately intimate and/or public.

In all honesty, the book was not only interesting, but fascinating. It’s been well written, well edited, and designed to perfection. But I also feel that the author has forced his own religious beliefs, personal opinions into the context far too much, making it difficult to distinguish what was true and what wasn’t. The author appears to be more of a psychologist, than a spiritual advisor (He asked two or three questions at a time instead of dividing them up, one by one). However, I truly believe we are going to be hearing a lot more on the news about this particular book. My hopes are that it will not turn out to be yet one more highly publicized tragedy in the life of a historical icon whose music reached and touched many for decades. My thoughts at the end were to pray for Jackson’s family.

In March 2008, a man lost his entire life in only a short matter of time. I love to read mysteries and thrillers, but reading this one about a true event, sent chills up my spine. Literally.

It’s almost impossible to fathom the tragedy that struck the Caffey family that night. And even worse, to discover that it happened because of and/or by a member of that same family. It’s a story of tragedy, faith, forgiveness and unimaginable, unconditional love.

A true example of the powers of faith, the capabilities of a human under such conditions to not only withstand such a tragedy, but to fight for truth and some semblance of normalcy in life afterwards.

One of the most inspiring, heart-wrenching stories I’ve ever read. Terry Caffey was awakened in the middle of the night with a gun pointed at him by his teenage daughter’s boyfriend. That night, Mr. Caffey’s wife and two sons were shot to death for no other explanation than sheer, cold-blooded murder. Though Mr. Caffey was also shot, he survived after coming to and realizing not only had he lost his entire family, but the house was now afire. He barely escaped. And lived to tell about it.

It wasn’t discovered until later, that his teenage daughter had also survived. And then even more devastatingly revealed, accused of being the mastermind of the plot to kill his family.

I’m not sure put into that same situation I could’ve ever found my way back to God. And his struggle to do so was not an easy one. Yet Terry Caffey did just that. And... he’s now ministering full time to others who have suffered tragedies.

Truly an inspirational read that might make a believer out of the most difficult non-believer that God allows things to happen, but will see us through even the most difficult of times for HE is always with us. Always.

Chilling, gripping, emotional, inspirational and an amazing willpower to survive and still find peace of mind.

Written and formatted like a fairy book tale, the information provided by the author has been delicately woven into an adult story using Snow White and Cinderella as princesses who learned Happily Ever After ended when they closed the covers on their fairytale books long ago.

Though I’m not completely sure the author had permission to use those particular “characters” in the book, nonetheless they were fitting as used in the story.

This would be an excellent read for any woman who has found her self to be single, living alone, whether thru divorce, death or other circumstances in life. The inspirational side is enlightening.

In order to survive such life tragedy caused by divorce or death, which in turn throws you back out into the world as a single person, you must first relearn your own self worth, rebuild your depleted self-esteem if applicable, but most of all, know inside your heart that you can move forward without apprehension.

Often during a marriage, especially one of long term, we lose ourselves without ever realizing it. We’ve thought about what is best for “us” for so long, we’ve long ago buried what’s important for “me”.

For example, remember back to a time when you were still single, having never lived with or been married to someone. What were your dreams, your goals, your determination aimed at?

Those dreams and/or goals are still obtainable if you’re ready to stop dwelling on the past and move forward. You can do anything if you put your mind to it and this little “fairytale styled” book just might be the ticket of inspiration you need.

In this collection of short stories, Savva has captured the essence of her characters in a well-paced, gripping mannerism. One of the most difficult tasks for an author when writing a short story is to be compelling enough to complete the story in novel magnitude, but with minimal words. There's no room for building up the background surrounding the characters and their stories. Savva has mastered the technique with ease.

The characters are realistic, the stories are attention grabbing and the detailed depth of the scenes are by far some of the best I've seen, and all done with a poetic justice of sorts. Each story is wrapped around a color found in rainbows, a most unusual and brilliant concept.

I'd highly recommend this read and give it 5 Stars!

Though described as a collection of essays, I felt while reading this truly inspirational book that it is more along the lines of a memoir.

Through the well-written chapters, the reader is taken along for the journey the author has endured. It's a collection of memories and passions deeply felt by and/or experienced by the author.

Carlynn has been through so much in life already. Most of us will, in our lifetimes, experience only a small dose of what this author has and yet, each page, each story, reveals the uplifting soul of the heart behind the words.

Through sadness, joy, and a passion for the gifts the Lord has bestowed upon us, the author sheds light on the many areas of life we normally might walk by, unnoticed by the naked eye, and though not unscathed, she has miraculously risen above it all--triumphant with an even deeper faith.

I found this to be a truly inspirational and informative read, where not only are we shown the troubled life of the author, but a deeper, more passionate side of her insight into the wonders of the world, blessings given to us, and everything about the author which makes up her uniqueness.

I'd highly recommend this book, no matter the reader's preference, as it touches on so many areas of interest, tugging at our heartstrings, instilling a deeper faith, a broader vision and a defining realism and perspective.

I loved the first book in this series, Prime Time, and hoped Ryan would not disappoint me on this second installment. Hank Ryan’s not only written yet another action-packed, suspense novel, she’s outdone herself with Face Time. Having the journalistic background on her side, Ms. Ryan is able to write a “could really happen” gripping storyline with likeable (and not so likeable) characters readers can relate to.

Brilliantly weaving the personal life of her heroine into the background of the story only adds to the strength in Ryan’s writing ability. Her plots are captivating, her characters are realistic and the surprising twists in her storyline draws the reader in to a life behind the scenes of what one won’t see when watching the ten o’clock news report.

I love it when a series only gets better, a difficult task for any writer to accomplish, but Hank Ryan breezes through with top-notch literary skills. Her creativity with her characters is fantastic and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to see what “Charlie’s” gotten herself entangled into next.

Liz Johnson’s debut novel is a charmingly sweet romance with just the right dose of mystery and suspense. From prison to mountain cabin, and back to city streets that harbor dangerous unseen assailants, Ms. Johnson takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotion and action that keeps the pages turning fast enough to stir up a whirlwind of anticipation and interest. A well-written tale with a number of unexpected twists along the way.

“...you’re only as good as your last story.” Investigative reporter Charlotte McNally, better known as “Charlie”, is forty-something now and in order to keep her job, she has to stay on top of the younger generation clamoring for her position. With sweeps coming up, she needs something big and isn’t too happy about being sent to interview a widow (where’s the story in that?) by her manager, who has made it clear if she doesn’t make a stand, this might be her last year with them. Charlie knows she’s good at her job and she wants to keep it that way.

But then the interview with the widow takes an unexpected twist. Brad Foreman’s car accident may not have been an “accident” after all! Apparently he had been sending Charlie emails and his widow wanted to know why she never returned any of his messages. With Brad’s recent spotlight and then his sudden death, combined with the messages he had sent Charlie, this all combined sent out an alarm to Charlie’s experienced gut instincts, so she checks out her emails. What she uncovers winds up being a scam—and it was also now possible that Brad Foreman’s so-called “accident”... might really have been a murder!

Charlie and her producer, Franklin (loved his character!) are on the brink of something really big. They’re sure of it! The investigation leads Charlie to Josh Gelston. But Charlie is not sure if she can trust him and to make things worse, she also can’t deny her attraction to the man.

Hank Phillippi Ryan delivers mystery, murder, romance and knowledge in the field with humor, and her familiarity of Boston makes Prime Time a riveting, first-person POV (usually a pet-peeve of mine) and I look forward to more books from this author. She’s dynamic in real life and it reflects in the dialogue and plotting of her writing as well.

Dr. Gram and FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children, combine their efforts and specialties in this page-turning, gripping novel. Naya also talks to the dead girl while sleepwalking and during their conversations, Janet shares snip-its of information the FBI on the case don’t have, including information never brought forth to the public on the never-solved murder three decades ago, making the case even more puzzling and the story, more intriguing.

Preetham Grandhi backs up his plotting with his own medical knowledge in psychiatrics, making the story even more fascinating and believable. With each chapter broken down into time periods during days in a week, Grandhi’s ever-twisting plot, descriptive prose and attention-grabbing dialogue will keep the reader engrossed as the author draws the reader deeper into the crevices of the mind of a disturbed child.

Also, Grandhi has masterfully blended the suspense of a thriller with the Federal agent assigned to the case and the psychological knowledge of the doctor assigned to the child whose parents have entrusted him with her care.

In the end, Dr. Gram is forced to accept the many lives a soul has actually had previously and his own past lives eventually led to the person he is today, compared to the person he was in another time, another realm. This isn’t easy for him to deal with at first.

As a debut novel, the author has done very well and I’m looking forward to future works. A definite must read!

The illustrations that go along with the story are wonderful and unique, and it’s amazing after seeing the photo of the author with his history in the back of the book, to reflect on how similar he looks to the Noah illustrated in the book.

As an added bonus, a CD comes with this well-made hardcover children’s book. William Lee Golden of the Oak Ridge Boys narrates the story himself and also included on the CD is the song that coincides with the idea for the book, ‘Didn’t it Rain’ performed by the Oak Ridge Boys themselves!A delight for young and old alike. A splendid blend of romance and history as the author takes one into the world of silk making. Set in the late 1400’s, the story is based around two sisters, Jane and Isabel, who are the daughters of a silk merchant in London, John Lambert. Lambert’s business is suffering and in desperation, he resolves to marry off his two daughters to rich husbands.

Jane, the eldest of his daughters, marries Will Shore, but then later divorces him when she becomes romantically involved with Edward Plantagenet (King Edward IV) and she continues to be his mistress for several years.

Isabel marries Thomas Claver, a goldsmith, who is the son of Alice Claver, another silk merchant. Thomas later dies, making Isabel a widow, but Alice Claver is impressed with Isabel’s obvious skills involving the manufacturing of silk and teaches her everything she knows about the silk industry, from producing the finest quality silk to the business end of marketing the silk.

Isabel then becomes involved, in a business sense, with King Edward’s plan to bring in workers from Venice, their competitor, to make the finest quality silk.

After Edward’s death though, Jane goes to prison, which is a surprising twist in the story. Another twist is that Isabel later becomes involved with Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, who eventually becomes King Richard III.

I found the weaving of a fictional story plot into the well researched history of the time era to be quite impressive. The romantic involvements of the two sisters plays a very important part in the story plotting, while the setting is really the main focus point of the novel, as the reader learns about the rulers of the land and how important the silk industry becomes to their success or demise.

I believe there may be a few discrepancies in the historical part and a few plotting avenues that were not totally believable, however overall the story itself flows quite smoothly with just enough romance and mystery interlaced with historical accuracy to make for a very good storyline for anyone who enjoys history or historical romance.

I also found the blending of the setting and plotting to accentuate each other nicely, keeping the reader’s interest in the two women, Jane and Isabel, and their very apparent affluence in the silk industry, while also learning the importance of that industry to the politics of the land’s government.

Riveting! This brilliantly written second edition in the Jack Davis’ series by Joel Goldman grabs your attention from page one as the scene of a December 1959 double murder unfolds. No one was ever charged for the homicides, in which the daughter was a witness to, but lucky to have been brave enough to jump from her second story bedroom to avoid the assailant.

The story then jumps to present day, January 2009, as Jack Davis meets with a friend to discuss his delicate “services” in need once again. Davis is a former FBI agent who had left the agency for health reasons. The complications of his disease made it impossible for him to fulfill his duties at the agency. His son was murdered years before and more recently, his daughter has passed away.

But Simon, who is in a security business, needed him now. Milo Harper’s foundation was doing studies on the human brain. But some of the study participants are dying. Not only that, but dying exactly in the way they’ve dreamed they would die.

The foundation, The Harper Institute, are performing the studies to try to find ways to cure Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases. But the studies are now pointing to deaths and could be the end of the institute!

Jack, even with his physical and sometimes debilitating limitations, agrees to help his friend Simon but soon discovers, he’s become involved in something much worse than “unexplained deaths”. There’s a serial killer loose and Jack must find out the truth and who is behind the now determined, murders.

Joel Goldman has a unique style as his story unfolds in the first person, putting you into the head of Jack Davis. I found this to be quite gripping and captivating.

The novel itself is quite long, so you can’t read it all in one sitting, but you’ll find it difficult to find a place to “stop for the night”. Realistically set in the Kansas City area, I found the book to be very believable since I also live in the Kansas City area and my books are also based around the Kansas City area, however in a fictitious setting based around the Kansas City area.

Goldman’s realistic setting, fast-paced dialogue and chilling plotting will have you wanting to read more in this gritty suspense series. I’m looking forward to more of this author’s work.

Hannah is left fending for herself and winds up taking a job at the local saloon working in the kitchen and rents the cabin she and Flint built, out to a new preacher, Joshua, who has shown up in Uptop and decided it to be the perfect place to set up church.

Meanwhile, Flint is alive and well. The Ute Indians merely wanted his cattle to feed on during the forthcoming winter, sure to be a hard one. Because of his blonde hair, his life is spared.

While on his journey to head home to Hannah, who surely believes him to be dead, he comes across a wagon belonging to a young black boy and his deceased, slave mother. The slaves had since been freed. He helps the boy bury his mother and together they climb into the wagon. Flint is going to find him a home where “his kind” are staying, hopefully at Fort Garland, which is along the way to Uptop.

Without giving away too much of the story, based on accurate historical research, Ms Garman has written a well-told, captivating, short story in The Length of a Dream. With lively dialogue, depicted accurately for the era, you’ll be sure to keep turning the pages to find out what happens to this family next.

The author does a fantastic job of bringing vividly to life another time and place. Absolutely stunning imagery. I felt as though I were right there in ancient Jerusalem… inside the empty tomb of Jesus Christ…seeing the Roman soldiers, the Temple Mount, the lifestyles and customs of that day and time. A Lever Long Enough is packed with riveting suspense and heart-pounding intrigue. The pages turn all by themselves as the reader rushes through Jerusalem along with Benjamin and his team. It’s fast-paced, dynamic, and totally unpredictable. I didn’t want the story to end.

Forgotten Memories by Bernice Camp tells the story of Ella Martin, a troubled social worker having dreams that stem from her most recessed of memories. She seeks the help of others close to her, whom she trusts, to try to understand why at this time in her life, she's having such disturbing dreams. She's unable to concentrate on her personal life, her work or keeping her own peace of mind. And as a social worker helping children to come to grips with their own stability and self worth, this proves to be impossible until she can solve her own dilemma.

I would consider Forgotten Memories to have good story content and compelling conversation, however it has no chapter breaks and very few time frame breaks. It is told in the first person, which makes the reader wonder if this shouldn't be considered an autobiography. Because of the size of the script, this could possibly be a novella, but it needs some work, more depth and to be fiction, a change in how the story is told.

Ms. Camp has the potential to turn this into a compelling and attention holding novel. It grabs the reader's attention, but is lacking in some other vital areas. I believe with some editorial consulting she could turn this script into a much better story as a whole.

A very inspiring read and the factual, descriptive content is most enlightening as you can see the characters and envision the time period in history in which they are living.

A wonderful read. I’m looking forward to more after this first installment in the Sydney Cove series.

A complex story about the life of Cara Hughes, I found this to be captivating from the first page. A family troubled from early on, the book spans a period of about fifty years beginning with an attempted suicide.

Cara met and fell in love with a man and believing the feelings to be mutual, she succumbs to his needs. And her own. Young, pregnant and expecting a future together, she’s devastated to learn he’s already married. And has other children. She doesn’t tell him she suspects she is pregnant. Young and confused, Cara fails at a suicide attempt.

When she opens her eyes again, she’s looking into the eyes of a man she doesn’t know, but in time, they fall in love and marry. They have several children. Unknown to Billy, Cara’s husband, Benjamin, their first born, is not his son.

Life is good except for one small detail. Benjamin is a troubled young man who doesn’t resemble their other children and he’s bullied most of his younger life. A fact he never tells Cara and Billy. And it later makes its mark on Benjamin, who then passes his anger on to his own wife. He then disappears, without a word to his mother or father. For some time.

Another factor into the story, which you have to follow closely, is that Cara and her sister had a falling out years before and she’s later reunited under some unusual circumstances when she is literally “dropped off” there to live. Amazingly, the two women are able to finally get the truth out into the open and mend fences put up 50 years earlier.

A poignant, believable but complex story, that is well written and articulated. It’s filled with lively conversation, true-to-life characters and weaved into the various time periods are all the necessary details, which help explain the events of the past that led the characters to the point of relationship they are at, at that point in time.

An excellent, captivating read. You won’t want to put it down, but do need to be prepared for an interesting journey into the life of Cara requiring total concentration.

Feigh’s The Sure Way to Him has made understanding the Bible, its scriptures and stories, an easy to read and understand format using acronyms, among several tools, to enlighten us as to what the Bible is really trying to tell us, to teach us, so that we will be able to know “for sure” whether or not we are doing everything possible to insure our passage from this world to an eternal life in the house of our Lord and Savior.

Feigh has provided statistics and brilliantly designed lists and charts which will help serve as memory aids, so we won’t forget the messages contained in the sometimes difficult to understand terminology of the Bible scriptures and passages, often too complex. He doesn’t tell us how we should take them to mean, but provides information and tools so that we may formulate our own individual understanding of the meaning behind the words.

I’ve seen various Bible versions, easy to read Bibles, condensed versions and others, but never before have I seen a method such as Feigh’s to help us understand God’s profound love for His children. While at the same time, giving us the tools to know that God does not expect us to be perfect, but only for us to learn and grow while loving Him, to know how wonderful life can really be if we live an obedient life. To know that no matter what, God loves us and is there for us. He will always give us strength and guide us on our journey. God does not make bad things happen. Life is life and there will always be obstacles, good days and bad days. But if we are obedient to living the words of God, we are then able to handle any situation and know God is there looking out for us, watching over us and taking care of our needs.

Can we ever really be sure we are going to Heaven? Do you fear God and the possibility of not dwelling in His house for eternity? Does your faith ever waiver? Then I recommend The Sure Way to Him by Craig T. Feigh. Use it as a Bible study tool with your family. You will finally be able to measure your place on that staircase to Heaven. And you might even be surprised to discover that you really need to change in order to be closer to God’s love. Or at least, view the Bible in a new light.

Though I vaguely recall picture books when I was a little girl, I do remember I loved reading them. Pictures grab a child’s attention and adding a story along with it, only inspires them to learn to read themselves.

Creating a children’s picture book based on computer characters was a very unique and well thought out idea. I found this 24-page story to be quite delightful and sure to entertain any young child.

Children are learning to use the computer before they’ve begun to walk and in some cases, before learning to talk. An active mind yearns to gather as much information as it possibly can and Little Bit & Big Byte – A Day at the Beach by Craig T. Feigh will surely have your child yearning to read, over and over again.

The illustrations are wonderful, full of color and happy faces. The storyline itself quite entertaining.

A delightful read.

A most inspiring read!

A young Irish girl is bewildered when she’s sent away not only from her family, but from her homeland as well. Raised by foster parents, she is troubled most of her life, but never tells a soul until one day, she finally lets go of everything inside when she tells a friend. This sets off a string of adventures when the two women head for Ireland in search of answers, healing and closure.

The story is true but written as fiction, though the details are so real, so vibrant, it’s difficult to distinguish between the two. Patti Lacy was able to capture the feelings and emotions of young Mary’s life from the time she left Ireland at only five, to her discoveries when she returns as a mature woman.

Having never been to Ireland but wishing I could travel one day, I found the descriptive prose to be quite enlightening. Lacy has a talent for bringing her story from the crevices of her mind, to life on the pages you and I read. From the beginning, you won’t want to stop reading this story of love, hope, sadness and compelling journey through the life of Mary O’Brian as she finally opens up and then searches for answers and closure.

One of the best written novels I’ve read and sure to grab your attention and hold it while you travel across the globe with Patti Lacy as she propels the story of Mary O’Brian from Ireland. A most inspiring read!

Growing Up Ugly is a memoir of the life of the author. And what an amazing life she’s had thus far! Each chapter tells of her recollections of growing up while recovering in a hospital from a stroke at a young age. As she fades in and out of consciousness, memories spring to mind as she sleeps. Very detailed memories. Fond and not so fond memories.

Though to some her childhood would be construed as stemming from a very dysfunctional family, the family itself had a bonding between them that only love could hold. Through tragedy, mental illness, alcoholism, poverty and health issues, this family stayed together and protected each other in a way one can only admire.

Ms. Garman felt awkward, ugly and had a very low self-esteem during her childhood, experiencing many things in life at a very young age that we would hope today, no child would have to go through. And yet, it’s those very same experiences which God led her through to get her past it and to the point in life she is at now. Some would have never survived. Others would have aged with bitterness and regret. Many who experience similar experiences never emerge, but drown. But as we all know, God has a plan for all of us, if we will only open the door for Him to enter into our hearts.

Still struggling with issues, she met and married a man who had been down some of the roads she had been down and together they grew. Now he is the pastor of a small church and together, they enjoy a much different life full of the joy and the beauty God created. She learned that beauty is not an outward appearance others can see, but something which can only come from inside. Beauty is within our souls, not our physical bodies.

I felt many mixed emotions as I read her story and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to do so. Ms. Garman has a unique talent for telling a story and her memoir is a story you will not want to miss. A truly exceptional book! Garman is an exceptional writer with a unique talent and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Bitter, honest and overwhelmingly outgoing at times, no one could remember seeing Ms. Meyers ever smile. Or care about anyone else, for that matter. With no hospitals within miles, Edith does the only thing she can think of to do to get the poor child some medical help. Something about her touched her very soul.

Serena Edwards was dying and going home to the comfort of family for support. She wasn’t expecting to pick up any “riders” along the way. She just wanted to go home to her grandmother. But then she came across a woman with sadness in her eyes and desperation in her voice. She had no way of knowing at the time, how important this woman would become to her... in the end.

Austin Edwards is also “intrigued” with this woman. Why is she with his sister? Despite his attempts to ignore his emotions brewing up, she’s like no one he has ever known before.

And Jake Warner is in denial when Serena, the woman who dumped him, returns home. He wasn’t happy about her return, but after the way she had left, he didn’t love her anymore. He couldn’t love her anymore. But even Jake couldn’t accept that ignoring his resurrected feelings wasn’t anything more than a lie and he would never convince himself, no matter how much he wanted, to not love her still. And the agony and pain he feels to love her again, knowing he would lose her for good this time.

Kelly Moran has a writing style like no other I’ve ever encountered. Very unique and rare. Her story plot is well crafted; the dialogue is fast-paced and adds great depth to the unforgettable characters. Not being a romance fanatic, I was quite taken with this particular novel because of the depth of the characters, the ability of the author to bring each one to life for the reader. Moran will hook the reader from the start and hold their attention until the end. Well-written and a wonderful read! I look forward to more reads by this author and will keep my eyes peeled for them.

But... someone appears to not want their relationship restored. Someone is out to sabotage them. Or are they? Were they after the ranch? And if so, why?

With the trouble at the ranch and in their strained relationship, it’s difficult for them to figure out exactly what is going on. Trouble seems to follow the McAllister women like bees are attracted to honey. But there’s nothing sweet about the happenings at Snow Canyon Ranch and danger is lurking nearby. Waiting for just the right moment.

Roxanne Rustand has written what I consider to be an award-winning series, packed full of mystery and suspense, and laced with just the right amount of romance. A job well done! I give it 5 stars again, as in the previous two in this series. A definite must read series, whether you love mysteries, suspense or romance. The well plotted characters combined with picturesque settings and lively events form a believable story line you are sure to love. You’ll wish there were more sisters!

After reading Hard Evidence, I looked forward to reading the next in the series, Vendetta. I was not disappointed! The series revolves around the lives of the three McAllister sisters.

In Vendetta, Leigh McAllister takes over a veterinary practice and sinks almost everything into it. She has high hopes of staying put and making it a go, a lifelong dream of hers, but someone doesn’t want her to stay there.

Several years earlier, Cole Daniels’ father was convicted of murder and it was due, for the most part, on testimony given by none other than Leigh McAllister. He wants justice for his wrongly-convicted father. So he returns to Wolf Creek to search for proof of his father’s innocence.

Both characters are compelled to succeed. But then, strange things began to happen at the clinic and someone appears to be doing everything in their power to stop Cole from finding out the truth. But why? And are the two connected in any way?

Though the friction is high, it’s becomes apparent that they will need to work together to find out who is behind everything, before there’s another murder! You won’t be able to stop reading until you know what happens.

Rustand is not only talented, but brilliantly delivers mystery and suspense entwined with romance. The balance of characters, setting and plot is well-blended. I enjoyed this read even more than the first one and can’t wait to find out about Tessa’s life, the last of the sisters. As an avid long-time mystery lover, I give it 5 stars, a must read! Bravo Roxanne!

Mistakenly under the assumption that Kaitlin was among them, Jack sets sail to return home, knowing his career was probably in ruins.

But then he receives a message and a new mission is created. His most dangerous covert assignment ever, Jack returns for the beautiful Kaitlin, determined to bring her home, get the story they originally sought and discovers there is so much more to it than he had ever imagined.

Glen Carter has mastered his debut novel like a pro. With true-to-life accounts, gripping suspense, action packed story-telling, you will wonder if everything in it, is really fiction. The characters are so real, the setting is vividly described and this fast-paced novel is sure to capture your attention and keep you turning the pages to find out how it all ends. Carter can add another success story to his long list of credentials and is sure to become an award-winning novelist.
